Melanin Gamers International Women’s Day Event
Melanin Gamers event at the Microsoft Store was amazing. Organising the event wasn’t easy because there was so many different scheduling conflicts – ups and downs but the event itself went off without a hitch.
The panellist were pitch-perfect and the advice they offered was not only informative but necessary. It always surprises me how much people don’t know, especially in the generation where information is supposed to be so easily accessible. The audience members were wonderful and so engaging – asking questions and really engaging in what we were saying.
After the panel, we had a networking section and of course, there were cupcakes generously provided by Microsoft and MG’s very own resident baker Juliana. It was a lovely moment where we all socialised and took pictures. As a thank you to the panellist MG provided them with illustrations of themselves done by King Marvellous a very talented artist.
Our first Gaming event in 2020:
It's not easy being a women in the industry - but thankfully we are surrounded by so many supportive women organising initiatives to support one another.
Then, of course, it was game time! At the end of the day, we are all gamers and it was nice to have some free-play where people could pick any game they wanted to play in the Microsoft gaming lounge and also participate in our friendly Overwatch tournament. All the attendees received lovely goody bags from Microsoft and MG and the winner and runners-up received trophies. All in all, it was a truly spectacular event.

Our workplaces don’t just have to hire more women and people of colour, they have to also work at retaining these members of staff, ensuring that the workplace and work environment they create is inclusive and makes the necessary changes so that everyone does feel included.
