Alongside the more traditional sports such as athletics, gymnastics and high jump - esports was added for the first time ever.
I believe that this move shows the significance and pivotal role that gaming is having in the world. For Ghana to have been the first country to add esports to the roaster of disciplines in the 13 years that the African games have been around, is not only a matter of national pride for me, but it stands as a testament to the impact of gaming. It demonstrates that Ghana and the wider African continent are taking proactive and innovative steps towards progress in the gaming industry.
Esports inclusion in the African Games alongside more traditional sports cannot be overstated.
While there were a few growing pains when it came to the organisation of the tournament – its inclusion in more traditional sports cannot be overstated. Like many sports, Esports boasts an unparalleled global appeal, transcending geographical boundaries and cultural differences. Additionally, it requires the same level of dedication and discipline that other sports need to achieve mastery over: dedication and training. Passion and motivation, proper nutrition, and both physical and mental fortitude.
The African games may have concluded, but by including esports for the very first time, the games have made history.
